I didn’t set out to destroy the world. Honest. Dragon Web Online promised its players a virtual world filled with simulated adventures and real treasures. Play games, get rich. It seemed like the perfect way to make the cash my family needed to keep us off the streets. It seemed too good to be true. It was. I made a terrible mistake and stumbled into the truth behind the world’s most popular Virtual Reality game. Now I’m marked for death and the most powerful people in the world want to hang their crimes around my neck. They call me a thief. A murderer. The killer of worlds. The people who know the truth call me the Saint of Shadows. I didn’t set out to destroy the world, but somebody had to do it. Somebody had to set you free. Dragon Web Online Inception kicks off the Electric Shadows LitRPG Adventure series. Meet the Saint of Shadows as he begins his journey into a virtual reality that threatens to consume the world as we know it.

Dragon Web Online Inception A LitRPG Adventure Series Electric Shadows Volume 1 S R Witt 9781546313373 Books

This was a fun book to read. The main character isn't the typical by any means with his rogue focus and sneaky ways. Also, the way the author blends the real world with the game was different, but grew on me.
What kills me is right when you are getting into the storyline, BAMMM! Book over! It was soooo short. Like short story short. This seems to be a common theme for a lot of LitRPG authors (End Online, Universe online, etc) and it drives me crazy!

Dragon Web Online Inception A LitRPG Adventure Series Electric Shadows Volume 1 S R Witt 9781546313373 Books Reviews

I expected an adventure tale from a modern or slightly future reference. What I got was a destination, seemingly fated in the main character's real world, with a healthy amount of flashback, telling us of the journey in an ingeniously crafted virtual world. The journey is the story, and the fate is not yet written. The book is novella short, but does not stand alone very well, as it obviously has more to offer in upcoming sequels. I stand behind my 5* rating. This book is worth reading and looking forward to the next couple.
I got a copy of this prior to it being published and I am reading it again now that I have bought the final version. That is how much I liked it. It is amazing, do yourself a favor and pick it up.
Reminiscent of Ready Player One but with a darker tone that I loved. This is a true struggle between wanting to be friendly but knowing you can't in order to help save someone you love. Saint is trying to save his mom in the real world while dealing with an abusive brother. He finds a way, but sometimes the means don't justify the end. Ends on a great point to keep you wanting the next installment without being an X-Files WTF cliffhanger ending.
I would rate this book at 4.2 stars. However, due to wishing to support the author into continuing the series I rated five stars. I really liked the style of this book and thought it was original in the upcoming LitRPG series.

I due agree with other reviewers that this doesn't really have a complete novel feeling. There is more foreshadowing than actual plot. This is going to put a lot of pressure on the second book, in aspects of time before being published and quality of expectations met.

A lot could have been cut, even parts I liked, to make this story a better read. LitRPGs by nature have to have a basis in action. It's about the development of the character(s), similar to how a leveling system shows progression, while still following a gaming format.

While I believe there should have been another round of editing, I would of rather had more pages to have had something actually happen in the book. It was a lot of buildup towards... the next book.

Still looking forward to the next one, but most likely you'll lose a fair amount of readers due to this.
...But not the Saint....

DWO follows the story of two brothers that join an online MMO game, to try to make money to help their ailing mother. They form a plan to team together as Bastion who becomes a type of warrior and Saint who was supposed to become a Healer but due to a series of incidents he becomes a thief instead.
The story is told in two parts, outside the game where Saint is on trial and inside the game, where he does his thieving, which converts to money in the real world, which they use to buy medicine for their mother.

I didn't think I would enjoy this book, I thought it would be very "in game" bad fan fiction, but instead it is a very interesting take on the MMO world, also, when Saint is in game, I totally became immersed and forgot about the real world aspect until Saint logged out of the game, which is what a good MMO should do.

I have to hand it to Sam Witt, he has written in so many genres, from Pitchfork County horror, to World Apocalypse and now Science Fiction and without missing a step he still turns out the same high standard and quality of writing as always.

A great introduction to this series!
Great first book and Very well written. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Great to see English Litrpg books coming out, some of the translated ones are poorly translated.
The story is about a character that gets pushed around by everyone throughout the book. No real self discovery and no point does he really stand up for himself, not without immediately waffling. Usually this it mitigated in many other books by some humor, but not in this case. I can see the potential in the series but this book does not make me want to continue reading to find out.
This is a very good story, hard to imagine how one can be original in this genre, no where to go beyond swords and monsters. This introduces a new slant, although it seems I`'ll have to read the next installment to find out exactly what it is, always problematic. I usually expect the plot to be filled out by now, and to know all the main characters in the first few chapters. Who is Mercy, and Xi? We should know these important people by now. Can`t simply have characters flitting in and out. At least briefly describe them so they are not just ghostly names.
